I had a very humbling experience last night. Enter: The pinewood derby for scouts! Brian sanded the car gave me instructions for painting and lubing the axles, putting on weights etc. ....and leaves town. Tuesday afternoon Master melts after school because he thinks the car is old fashioned looking and wants to race it backwards...ok fine. I get home from work and am furiously drilling holes in the bottom of the thing because according to my scale we are over weight. We get to the church; I look over and Sport is half naked because he has a thing with taking off his shirt lately. (Can't deal with it at the moment, so in vain I tell him to put his shirt back on. He replies with a loud NO and laughs at me) I go to the official weigh-in to discover we are under weight. Some good brother loans me some weights and I hot glue them on. The weights I had put on the bottom had to come off and go on the top as well, all of which ticks off Master because he thinks they look stupid. Another brother (remember this is a church/scout thing) is spinning the wheels of our little car telling me to add more graphite. I do... and off to the races. DEAD FREAKING LAST in all four heats. I wanted to cry. I have failed the pinewood derby category of motherhood. Master was bummed but a good sport about it. Next year the Daddy needs to be in town or I need to google search: How to make a car that will WIN the RACE! I will note some of the Dads (good brothers) attending, were mighty intense! I thought we were all there for a good time. Personally I think those men lost when they were 8 and have come back for justice! Sport put his shirt back on (backwards) but at least on.
Tonight I had to prep a costume for Master to do a monologue at school tomorrow. He is Iceman from the X-men and needs to go in costume (who says Halloween only happens once a year!) I may stink at Derby cars but my X-men belt courtesy of the glue gun and Velcro turned out pretty good!

You never cease to AMAZE ME!!!!
Melanie, that post made me smile:) Nice job on the costume!!
That is when you are supposed to call me.
I was over cub scouts for 2 1/2 years and that includes the derby races. I have the "secrets" to the cool cars and may even have pdf files of patterns. I actually had to go to a TRAINING on the pinewood. Yes - it's intense!
Good luck next year with tweaking Brian's schedule so he's in town!
Your X-Men belt rocks. Very nice! I say good for you for going to the Pine Wood Derby. You deserve your own merit badge for duking it out with those pathetic men!
Melanie you are so creative and fun! You really do amaze me.. Love the costume:)
